THE SAGA
My name is Travis Sigler and I am an entrepreneur, artist, leather worker, and small business owner here in Portland, Oregon. I co-own and co-founded Wyrd Leatherworks and Meadery, a dream and passion of mine that has been over 6 years in the making. Wyrd, much like Niflheimr, started out as a tiny spark of an idea and with many hardships, hurtles, and thousands of hours of work, has become one of Portland's top places to visit and is now a whole medieval fantasy hall where cosplayers and faire goers flock in armor and garb to escape the real world.
Over those thousands of hours over the years, I found myself drinking coffee almost daily, and the drink became a staple in my day-to-day operations, and with this passion for Wyrd I also found myself wanting to dabble in the art of creating the beverage I was consuming on the daily. I began test roasting beans, acquiring some of the materials needing to create them, ordering product from around the world in different regions, chatting with those who work in the coffee industry, lots of conversations with my Kitchen Manager at Wyrd Devon Olson who is also joining in on this adventure, and slowly a new idea came into fruition.
Thus began Niflheimr Roastery Co.
Niflheimr Roastery Co began with the joke between Devon and I of how it might be a good place in Norse Mythology to set up a little coffee stand, with it being a prime location for the beverage considering in Norse Myth it is cold, dark, and misty. With this image in mind, it began to set the mood and tone for the idea.
This idea has been in the works for about a year now, with a logo being made up by our friend Nate Verschoor, who studies Norse and Pagan Myth and wrote Myrkþursablót : Nightside of the Old Norse Mythology.
The logo is a bindrune which represents Niflheimr and was created by Nate for us to use as our brand image.
With a logo, name, test roasts in the making, research, and so much underway it seemed like our idea was moving along as a side project to our main jobs. It wasn't until we got a small cart that the whole idea seemed to really be within our grasp, which is where this campaign comes into play.
We have the cart. We have the brand. Now we just need a little extra push from the community to help fund the actual launch! With your help, Niflheimr Roastery Co will be effectively launched into the world and we will be delivering roasted beans and cups of coffee to the masses in no time!
